Mission Africa

Update • January 2008

In late January a small Mission Team of 4 people, Penny Merritt, April McGaver, Dan & Barb Freeman
set out to visit Mama Tesha, the teachers and children of St Margaret's Academy near Arusha, Tanzania.

We were greeted at the school by many smiling faces and lots of excitment. In honor of our presence at the school
many of the classes had prepared music and dancine for their visitors.

While we were there we helped the children with an art project that we brought along. In the shade of the afternoon
these girls work on tying fabric to a new pair of thongs which they were given to take home.

April, Barb and Penny visit with the children at the downtown nursery location while
they wait for a parent or sibling to pick them up from school.

Thank You From Tanzania

Dear Pastor and People,

I greet each of you in Jesus’ name hoping that you are proceeding with God’s work. Back to my side, I am well. I want to thank you in what you have done to me because to be in this teacher college is through your kindness and money you sent. I tell you my studies are going well.

Send greetings to your families starting to the mother and up to the last born. Say to them that they are welcome in Tanzania, especially Iringa and Lulanzi.

Your son in Christ,
Nuru Makongwa

(Note: Nuru is Pastor Makongwa’s son who King of Kings sponsored in secondary school. He was accepted to teacher college this fall. King of Kings chose to continue sponsoring him through our Global Mission fund.

A Special Visitor!

Photos

Late in August a very special visitor arrived at King of Kings. Godlove Kalinga, our student from Tumaini University in Tanzania, East Africa had finally arrived. After a journey of more that 24 hours, his airplane finally touched down in the United States and he was welcomed by members of King of Kings.

During his visit I asked Godlove many questions regarding himself, his family, and his country. Here is some of background information he told me.

"I am the first born in the family of five Children. I have born in 1976 at a village called Ilamba. It is a village where they are good producers of fruits.

In our family we are five boys and only one sister. My sister is in form three at Udzungwa Secondary School and she is the fourth born in our family. Our last born is at Primary School at a school called Kilolo. He is in standard three. The rest three brothers have not managed to go for secondary Education because they didn't pass in their standard seven examinations and my mother has failed to send them at private schools where the school fees is a bit high. However, they are interested.

I completed my primary education in 1991. There after, I was selected to join secondary school in 1992 at Malangary Secondary School, which is a government school. With God's power, I did well in my final exams and was lucky to be selected for Advanced Level Secondary studies at Tosamaganga Secondary School which is also a government school. In there I was taking Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.

In October 2000 I joined Tumaini University for my Degree Program leading to the award of Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration."

During his short visit to the United States, he became the center of many photo's. Here are a few of those photo's:

Galen, Godlove, and Pastor Ralph show off their fashion style as they pose for a photo at a Maple Island, Inc.

Chief Olsen at Lulanzi

Bob and Godlove settle back for some of that good American food.

Godlove looks right at home standing in Larry's boat -(in the driveway!)

Riding a lawnmower might seem fun the first few times and then like everything else becomes work.

Lulanzi Kids

Everyone enjoyed hearing Godlove as he spoke at all of the services.

Now this is the life! Godlove looks like he fits in really wellbehind the wheel of a golf cart.
